AustriaThe RepaNet Network was founded in 2004 and is a social enterprises’ network providing employment for people with difficulties in the regular labour market, such as the disabled, poorly qualified, elderly and the long-term unemployed. The development of re-use and repair networks are RepaNet’s main activity and it has also carried out projects in trash-design, collection and re-use of IT equipment and the most successful mobile phones’ collection campaign ever. The technical method for increasing the energy efficiency of old washing machines and dishwashers (tuning of washing machines) was awarded with the national Energy Globe Award 2008 and the Austrian Award for Climate Protection 2009. RepaNet is now recognised as a best practice example for waste prevention and has expanded to the rest of Austria and even Slovakia.

The organisation contributes to environmental protection and preservation of resources through the re-use and recycling of WEEE. Goods are sold at affordable prices to households in need in 50 shops around France. The Envie concept has been successfully exported to the UK, Germany and Belgium where it has brought its know-how to local organisations.

Bag Arbeit was founded in 1989 and is the German federal association of employment and training enterprises, based in Berlin. The network represents and provides services for social enterprises which are active in all sectors of the social economy. The organisation develops and implements employment and training projects for the long-term unemployed, young people with low qualifications, the disabled, ex-offenders, refugees and women returning to work. Oikologiki Etaireia Anakyklosis is a non-profit organisation for the promotion of re-use, recycling and waste reduction in Greece, through educational programmes in schools, publications (books and quarterly magazines) and information / awareness-raising programmes and campaigns. The organisation is especially active in the public debate in Greece around waste prevention issues. Among its recent initiatives are a home-composting project and awareness campaign and the “Klimax Plus” project, which offers working opportunities to people with psychosocial disadvantages including ex-substance mis-users and mentally ill individuals as well as the homeless, refugees and settlers.
