Introducing WIDADO - Austria’s first online marketplace, developed by Re-Use Austria, that brings together social and circular enterprises to offer a unique selection of second-hand furniture, homewares, clothing, books and more.

Launched in 2022, WIDADO features items which are thoughtfully cleaned, expertly repaired, fairly priced and listed by staff – many of whom are work integration participants gaining valuable experience in logistics, repairs, sales and more. These roles not only support circular economy goals but also help individuals transition into long-term employment. WIDADO also offers click-and-collect services, allowing customers to order items online and pick them up in person, a more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternative. Bulky items such as furniture and mattresses, which were traditionally available only in brick-and-mortar stores, can now be purchased online through the click-and-collect service, since home delivery is not offered for these larger products.

We use AI to automate some processes, for example descriptions, to make it easier for workers with lower qualifications. A challenge is that each product sold online has to be shipped, and furniture also has to be dismantled and reassembled at each step, including delivery.
- Matthias Neitsch, Re-Use Austria Managing Director

Re-Use Austria’s members typically employ people in work integration contracts, enabling them to build skills and confidence across a range of tasks, from logistics operations to furniture repair, refurbishment and sales support. According to Re-Use Austria, many participants have successfully transitioned to permanent roles, particularly roles in logistics, driving and commercial furniture sales. Several of these social enterprises maintain partnerships with external companies, including furniture retailers and shipping firms, that further provide employment pathways for their employees.
