What if one workshop could recover unwanted furniture, support vulnerable communities and create meaningful jobs? That’s exactly what the social furniture recovery workshop of Fundació Formació i Treball is doing.
Based in Barcelona, Formació i Treball is a work integration social enterprise. In 2021, they launched the Verdaderos Hogares (“True Homes”) project to repair and reassemble secondhand furniture into functional pieces for the homes of people in need. Today, the workshop handles 9 tonnes of furniture each month!
At the core of their work is a dedicated team, with over half held by work insertion participants. These individuals receive hands-on training and develop skills needed to transition into long-term employment.
This is one of the stories we’re proud to spotlight in our project on Social Enterprises’ Role in Furniture and Mattresses’ Circularity: https://www.rreuse.org/our-work/projects/social-enterprises-role-in-furniture-and-mattresses-circula...
