The aim of the TRUST (Trader Recycling Universal Standard) Forum is to improve the ethical and environmental standards of trade in re-usable items in the UK, for instance the used clothing industry.
It is a charity retailer led initiative working with commercial traders, regulators and sector bodies primarily to develop a robust audit process and supporting guidance. TRUST audits covering environmental management, H&S and working conditions began in 2020. They include a site inspection by an independent auditor. The standard has rolled out to over 30 certified traders with 17 charities signed up representing over 3000 shops. All TRUST signatories have agreed to only trade with TRUST certified merchants wherever possible.
