Reusing furniture and mattresses can significantly contribute to job creation and social inclusion.
A prime example of this is Center Ponovne Uporabe (CPU), the pioneering social enterprise that launched Slovenia’s first-ever reuse centre. Established to promote sustainability, CPU operates differently from typical reuse stores in the region by collecting, preparing, and reselling items directly at its locations, extending the life of furniture and mattresses.
At the heart of CPU’s mission is its commitment to social impact. The organisation provides employment and training opportunities for individuals with special needs and those distanced from the labour market. By offering meaningful work, CPU helps to build pathways to inclusion for these individuals, empowering them and fostering their independence.
CPU showcases how reuse activities address the need for waste reduction and also support vulnerable populations, creating a more sustainable and equitable society.
We’re thrilled to feature them as part of our Social Enterprises’ Role in Furniture and Mattresses’ Circularity project.
