RREUSE raises concerns about the European Commission’s latest Environmental Omnibus initiative, cautioning that reopening core environmental legislation under the banner of “simplification” poses a genuine threat to Europe’s environmental ambition. As highlighted in our publication, the absence of a robust impact assessment and the experience of earlier omnibus packages reveal a clear risk: what begins as a technical exercise can rapidly turn into deregulation, weakening long-standing protections and placing additional strain on social enterprises working on the ground. At a moment when the EU should be strengthening its environmental acquis, not diluting it, RREUSE calls on policymakers to safeguard the integrity of environmental law and reject shortcuts that undermine evidence-based decision-making.
