RREUSE has responded to the European Commission’s call for feedback on the delegated act concerning exemptions to the proposed ban on destroying unsold apparel and footwear.
Banning the destruction of unsold goods is a vital step towards tackling overproduction and ending wasteful business practices. RREUSE fully supports this initiative and welcomes the specific focus on textiles and footwear.
In our submission, we urge the Commission to narrow the proposed exemptions to avoid loopholes that could undermine the ban, harm the environment, and burden the used and waste textile sector. We call for any derogations to be technically justified, strictly defined, and limited only to cases where preparation for reuse is genuinely impossible.
