RREUSE's feedback on the simplification of administrative burden in environmental legislation

RREUSE has responded to the European Commission’s call for evidence regarding the simplification of administrative burdens in environmental legislation. While we acknowledge the potential benefits of more efficient procedures, we are deeply concerned that this initiative may weaken or dismantle existing protections. We strongly oppose the reopening of environmental legislation: simplification should not come at the expense of environmental objectives.

To mitigate the risks associated with simplification, we propose the following measures: implementing harmonised EU-wide reporting requirements, ensuring more transparent Extended Producer Responsibility schemes, and promoting user-friendly and accessible digitalisation efforts.
